Greenville Grill Grills At Both Houses

I have needed a gas grill for Greenville for as long as we have lived there, but in the apartment, there was lawn to put one on or a storage place for one. When we bought the house on Arnold street, we decided not to get a gas grill for fear that it might be carted off when we were away for a weekend or almost anytime, for that matter.

Perhaps it was because I found a gas grill for our Pontotoc home, that prompted Barbara to consider one for Greenville. She visited the City Gas Company and found that they would sell and install a natural gas grill on our property, and with a small down payment, extend the payments for a grill over several months by adding the payment amount to the monthly gas bill. On Wednesday this week, we selected a Dukane brand grill that will be anchored in concrete at our Greenville residence. It should be available for use by the time I return from my training trip to Jacksonville, FL. The grill has a stainless steel interior that is designed to extend the life of the grill. The price tag on it was about $300 higher than a similar model with a couple of less features. This grill has the usual twin burner as well as an additional upper burner that contains a trough to burn wood chips, for more smoked flavor. An electric rotisserie is also a feature that I doubt I shall find much use for. I still have a rotisserie that came with one of my first grills.

So now we will be able to enjoy the convenience of gas grilling at both of our residences.

Mondo Grass Saturday, June 15, 1996

From 10 to 4, was spent in the sun, working on Barbara’s flower beds. We brought some plants back from Greenville to fill in our new flower beds. The greater part of the time though was needed to prepare the land between the neighbor’s chain link fence and my drive for the Mondo grass we intend to transplant from Greenville. I scraped and tilled about 65 linear feet of ground that is averages 20 - 24 inches wide. We only brought enough grass to plant about 10 linear feet as thickly as we felt was needed to get this ground cover/ border grass established. Over the next few weeks we will bring enough of the Mondo grass to finish filling the area already prepared. We covered the newly tilled dirt with a thin layer of pine bark mulch to prevent the existing lawn grasses from getting re-established. The use of the pronoun we is somewhat misleading in the foregoing sentences, because Barbara was of little help. She complained of not feeling well and elected to stay in the house most of the time. She did help briefly scatter some mulch around the transplanted Mondo grass

I was outside all for 6 hours and most of the time I was in the sun except for periods of rest in under the maple tree, sipping ice water and relaxing in the swing. I expect to have more sore muscles on Sunday.

Dad's Day On Saturday  Family Gathers

Rayanne and Anson came over Saturday night for supper and to wish me a happy Father’s day since I would be leaving early Sunday morning on the trip to Jacksonville, FL. Anna had been canoeing with her dad and his girl friend, and she arrived shortly after Anson and Rayanne. Sarah Sue, Felicia, Brett, Jason, Anna, Rayanne, Anson, Barbara, and I suppered on the usual fare of grilled burgers, chips, salad, baked beans, and baked potatoes. I also grilled some smoked sausages for appetizers. You sort of have to hide them from Brett or he will eat all of them.

Jason and Rayanne gave me a bird feeder for Father’s day. It is composed of three vertical cylinders to allow for up to 3 different types of seeds. each cylinder has 4 post for perching birds and the base also serves as a feed trough. Maybe I’ll have the time next weekend to hang it and fill with seed.

Barbara did not know that Jason was going in with Rayanne on the gift, so she bought an inexpensive Polaroid focus free 35mm for him to give to me. I had her make a couple of pictures of Anna and me with the bird feeder after supper.

I finished out the evening paying bills by mail and by night depository boxes in town.

Editor's Note: I cannot explain how the date of June 03 '96 appears on this publication and contains two stories after that date.  But with no way of knowing for sure the dating method used at the time, I'm leaving the date unchanged.
