Writer ~ Sheila Crump Sheila Crump was born in
Baltimore, MD, but shortly afterwards moved to Alabama, which she
considers home. Home presently is atop Sand Mountain an area that housed the poorest of the
poor in the 1940s and 1950s. Sheila states it is like
a little enclave of folks who never went down the mountain and had little
means of support. They grew cotton, pigs and farmed and had gardens to see
them through the winter. Now there are chicken processing plants and a
large fire hydrant industry, but not a great deal more.
